1:1 Lessons In:
Modular Synthesis
My primary instrument and method of making music is with this wild machine. Let’s secure an understanding of the fundamentals of synthesis, module types, signal flow, and sound design. Soon, we’ll dive deep into more esoteric techniques and complex patching.
We’ll work together to make your first modular system. In time, you’ll develop a creative practice with the instrument that will naturally grow and unfold to new and exciting areas.
No hardware synths or prior experience required. Most students use the free modular synth software, VCV Rack.
Music Production & Songwriting
Making music, recording, editing, mixing, and finishing projects in a music software of your choice.
Ableton Live is the software I use, but I regularly work with students in other applications such as Logic Pro, GarageBand, and Soundtrap.
We’ll cover the essentials of music production including MIDI, software instruments, effects, synthesis, sampling, sound design, genre techniques, studio setups, and much more.
Songwriting topics include making melodies, harmony, arranging, song form, and much more.
Guitar
I grew up playing guitar and studied classical guitar formally earning my MM from Cleveland Institute of Music and BM from Arkansas State University. It’s a huge part of my creative practice to this day.
I’ve taught guitar lessons for over 15 years to all ages and levels. My guitar students learn songs by ear, from charts, and from tabs. They learn how to read and interpret sheet music. They learn the basics of improvising in traditional and non-traditional idioms. They study guitar theory to gain a deep understanding of the fretboard and develop a strong foundational technique to play efficiently.
Most students study a wide variety of styles throughout the course of their lessons, but some eventually focus on a particular style.
